When the terrain gets serious and the stakes go up, the MSR Men's Lightning Ascent delivers the traction, binding security, and uphill performance that technical winter travel demands. These are snowshoes built for the kind of Canadian backcountry where conditions don't forgive a compromised setup.
The 360° Traction frames with steel DTX crampons provide edge-to-edge grip on the icy traverses, steep sidehills, and variable snow surfaces where lesser snowshoes slip and lose confidence. The new Paragon binding is a genuine step forward: a freeze-resistant mesh strap wraps securely around a wide range of boot sizes without creating pressure points, and integrated toe stops make foot placement fast and precise even when you're fatigued and the light is low. Ballistic-grade TPU-coated nylon decking is built to handle seasons of aggressive use without showing it.
On sustained climbs, the Ergo Televator heel lifts engage with a simple flick of a pole grip, reducing calf fatigue and improving purchase on steep pitches without breaking your stride. Modular flotation tail attachment points let you add 5-inch tails on demand for deeper powder or heavier pack loads, then remove them when packed conditions call for the agility of a smaller frame. Available in three lengths to match load and terrain requirements.
